Program Overview

State licensure signifies a level of professional competency and is an important way to achieve greater career and business success. The ASLA Fund has launched the Women of Color Licensure Advancement Program to support women of color in their pursuit of landscape architecture licensure and increase racial and gender diversity within the profession.

In its second year, the program will provide 10 women of color with a two-year, personalized experience that includes up to $3,500 to cover the cost of sections of the Landscape Architectural Registration Exam (LARE), along with exam preparation courses, resources, and mentorship from a licensed landscape architect.  

Program Expectations
 
Upon entering the program, awardees are expected to:

  • Meet regularly with an ASLA-provided LARE Prep mentor.
  • Study for and pass all four of the LARE exams by December 2025.*
  • Pursue their first state license.
  • Share experiences of the program, including a post-program evaluation.
  • Allow ASLA use of their name and image in relation to promoting the program.

* Extensions may be granted on a limited basis for the emergence of unforeseen circumstances.

Eligibility
 
Applicants must be:

  • A current ASLA member in good standing or eligible for ASLA membership at the associate, full, or affiliate membership levels.
  • Identify as a woman and be a person of color.
  • Eligible to sit for the LARE in the state where they are pursuing licensure. View state-by-state LARE eligibility requirements.

Application Criteria
 
Applicants must supply the following:

  • A resume, curriculum vitae, or professional biography (limited to two pages)
  • A statement explaining why licensure is important to you and how the program will help achieve your career goal (limited to 500 words).
  • Optional: A statement providing any other information about your situation that may be relevant to your pursuit of licensure (limited to 500 words).
