ASLA's Federal and State Advocacy Efforts are Guided by These Overarching Themes:

Climate Change, Resilience and Biodiversity

Landscape architects routinely address climate change and biodiversity in their professional life and use their expertise in resilient and sustainable design to mitigate the consequences of these ongoing crises to protect public health, safety, and welfare. Because addressing climate change and biodiversity are so critical to the work of landscape architects and are woven with other issues, ASLA believes that all our advocacy efforts should take climate change, resilience, and biodiversity into account.

Equity and Environmental Justice

Landscape architects know the importance of community engagement during the design and planning process. Communities most affected by a project should be heard and understood. All too often underserved communities, especially Black and Native communities, are ignored during the planning stages of a projects and disproportionately suffer adverse environmental and health consequences. ASLA believes that all advocacy efforts must include a push for equity and environmental justice.
