ASLA applauds the House of Representatives for passing the Build Back Better Act, which will make the largest investment to address the climate crisis in U.S. history.

Along with funding for renewable energy, the Build Back Better Act also makes significant investments in national and community forestry and urban agriculture programs, continues to address the maintenance backlog at the National Park Service, and assists state and local governments in increasing the climate resilience of coastal communities – all projects that landscape architects can impact.

The measure also provides funding for Historically Black Colleges and Universities, which could help Morgan State and North Carolina A&T universities – both of which have landscape architecture programs producing the largest number of Black landscape architects in the nation.

The Build Back Better Act, along with the recently-passed Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, together will provide expanded opportunities for landscape architects to continue to lead resilient, climate-positive, community infrastructure projects nationwide.

The measure will now move to the Senate for further consideration. ASLA urges the Senate to pass this measure so that landscape architects and others will have critical tools to help our nation meet its climate and resilience goals.
