Statement from ASLA CEO Torey Carter-Conneen on Violence Against the AAPI Community

2021-03-24
The following is a statement from ASLA CEO Torey Carter-Conneen:

"Violence and hate against members of the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community has surged since the beginning of this pandemic and continues to increase.

"ASLA rejects bigotry in all its forms as wrong and fundamentally inconsistent with our mission and values. We condemn the horrible acts of violence and hate perpetrated on the AAPI community and we urge our members, our colleagues and partners to speak out against hate whenever and wherever possible.

"As an organization, we are committed to rolling up our sleeves and doing the necessary work of dismantling systemic racism, within the landscape architecture profession and within the Society itself. Following the release of our Racial Equity Plan of Action, we are working hard toward a future where diversity, equity, and inclusion aren’t just buzzwords – they are true descriptors of the reality around us."
