Biden-Harris Administration Makes Important Move Included in ASLA's Policy Recommendations Report

Today, Acting Secretary of the Interior Scott de la Vega issued Secretarial Order 3396 on the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF), rescinding a possibly illegal order from the previous administration and fulfilling one of the recommendations included in ASLA's Policy Recommendations Report “Landscape Architects Design Vibrant, Resilient, and Just Communities for All.”

The new order removes restrictions on federal conservation projects and restores the Outdoor Recreation Legacy Partnership (ORLP), the only LWCF competitive grant program dedicated to addressing the recreational gap in underserved urban areas. This was an important recommendation in ASLA's report and a long-term goal of ASLA's work with the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) Coalition.

"ASLA is excited to see the Biden-Harris administration moving so quickly on key recommendations in our policy report, including this decision to remove restrictions on LWCF and reinstate critical funds for underserved communities," said Torey Carter-Conneen, CEO of the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA). "All people living in urban communities should have equal access to outdoor space. ASLA is committed to making that a reality and this is a huge step in the right direction."
